I smoked some incredible sea salt with mesquite hardwood, a favorite hiding place for rattlesnakes, which imparts a strong, earthy smokiness. This rub is cayenne-heavy with delicious roasted spices and a real sting in the tail. Smoky ancho chilies and smoked oregano add an extra layer of flavor, and I've included some vibrant red food coloring to make it pop.
